John and Carol Miller
John was brought up within a farming community so has a keen interest in anything rural. John has a great sense of humour and always likes to bring some sense of joy and amusement to his preaching. No wonder his son and daughter have left home but his wife Carol remains faithful after 30 years. He has always enjoyed sport, but is now resigned to watching games and following the results on TV. John has always attended Emmaus Church and became a leader in 1991 just before the construction of the new building. His long association with the church brings stability and continuity and provides a natural connection with the local community who relate to him as a church leader. Carol, a farmer's daughter from Devon, married John in 1977 after completing a teachers training course in Gloucester. She became a Christian at College. As well as looking after their two children Abbie and Geoff, Carol helped John in running the family business, worked with children at the local playgroup and cared for an elderly neighbour. She joined the leadership team in 2006. Mark Chattaway (with Bridget) Mark was born in Leicester in the Midlands, then moved to Exeter in Devon when he was a teenager. Mark met Bridget when working for the London City Mission in 1988. Bridget then sailed with Logos 2 working for Operation Mobilisation, while Mark studied at Moorlands Bible College near Christchurch in Dorset. They married in Ireland during the summer of 1992. They have lived in Severn Beach more or less ever since, recently moving to a bigger property to allow their 4 year old twins (Sarah & David) to have their own bedrooms. Mark works full time for the NHS as part of a psychiatric nursing team at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Mark has an evangelistic heart, and since having children has a heart and concern for families finding Christ, and the challenge for the church to be user friendly in our modern age. Mark re-joined the leadership team at Emmaus in 2004. Mark has interests in Music (one of the Worship Leaders) walking , which keeps him fit and a general interest in most sports, alongside his wife who is fiercely competitive (ask anyone). Colin Wide (with Muriel)
Colin, married to Muriel for over forty years, has lived in Devon, Somerset and the Bristol area. They have two children and seven grandchildren. Colin is a retired architect. He is interested in crosswords and all sport but especially Somerset Cricket Club. Colin has been involved in a variety of churches from his early years and latterly in a charismatic fellowship before joining Emmaus Church. He became part of the leadership team in 2006 and has a heart and concern for the men linked to the church, and for encouraging people to know God's father heart. Sarah Jarvis (Church and Community Worker) Sarah was born in London and soon after my brother David was born, the family moved to Italy for three years. They moved back to England in 1987 and settled in Marlow, Bucks where she spent most of her childhood. After becoming a Christian at 15 through friends, Sarah knew that her life was going to be spent working for God. She went on a mission every year, starting in Essex in 1996, then Brazil to work with street kids, a youth mission to Spain came a year later, after which she did a year at Kingdom Faith Bible College. Sarah's placement was in Lebanon, and then she worked as a youth pastor's assistant before doing Bible teaching in Uganda for 4 months. At this point Sarah needed some money so she returned to England to work as an accounts assistant. After a couple of years Sarah did a certificate in English Language Teaching and then spent time teaching in Italy and two years in Poland. She return to England to do her theology degree at Trinity College in Bristol and came to work for Emmaus Church in Sept. 2008. As far a her hobbies go, Sarah loves watching films, playing sports and is an avid knitter.
